GATES
All gates must be closed on departure from the flying field.
PARKING
All vehicles must only be driven along the sign posted roadways.
TRANSMITTERS
No transmitter will be handled unless the person has the frequency peg, or leaving the premises. All transmitters must display the correct frequency pennant and number on the transmitter antenna. All new transmitters or transmitters of new members, must be checked with a committee member before they will be switched on.
FREQUENCIES
Only SAMAA approved R/C frequencies are allowed. The frequency pegboard will be updated from time to time as frequency policy may change at ICASA. (National frequency regulator).
PEG TIME
Peg time is a maximum 20 minutes. Timed from the moment the frequency peg is taken from the frequency board until it is put back again.
ENGINE STARTING
Show courtesy by ensuring that the propeller slipstream does not blow dust or oil on other aircraft and equipment.
Avoid excessive full throttle runs in the pit area.
Do not lean over or stand in front of a running motor. Make adjustments from behind the motor.
Planes to face away from the public when starting (face runway). Any pilot who do not comply with this rule, take full responsibility for any accidents which may arise. Typical accidents: propeller coming loose, disintegrating prop, plane running forward due to some kind of negligence.
TAKE OFF
Take-off are allowed only from designated runways, i.e. it is not allowed to take-off from the pit area or taxi strip.
A committee member present will determine the direction of take-off and landing. This pattern will not deviate until a committee member sanction the new direction. On wind free days a white arrow will be placed on the ground between the ready boxes and pilots area, indicating the direction of take off.
LOW FLYING
High-speed low passes are not permitted near the pilot area, but must be done on the far side of the runway.
Touch & Go are permitted only on the designated runways in the normal direction of flight (Landing & Take-off). Pilots must stand between their aircraft and the pit area.
Pilots are not allowed to fly their aircraft over the pit area, clubhouse, spectators or parking area. Check field layout diagram for the “NO FLY ZONES”.
LANDING
Whenever a pilot wishes to land his aircraft, he will announce his intentions to do so in a loud and clear voice, i.e. “LANDING”. He may then leave the pilot area and stand closer to the runway to land his plane, if he wishes to do so.
Dead stick landings always get priority over normal landings and take-offs, therefore if a pilot announced his normal “landing” or “take-off” and another pilot announces “dead stick”, the other pilot must abandon his landing attempts and give way to the “dead stick” aircraft.
Other emergencies like interference, engine and radio malfunction are treated like dead stick landings; therefore the pilot with an emergency must announce the words “DEAD STICK” if he/she wishes to land the affected aircraft.
PIT AREA
Unauthorized use of anybody’s field equipment is not permitted. It is everybody’s responsibility to keep the field tidy – make use of the dustbins or take your garbage home.
Children, (except in the case of junior members and “mechanics”), dogs and spectators are not allowed in the pit-area and runways.
The last member to leave the field will ensure that the windsock, pegboard and other field equipment are placed inside the clubhouse.
SAFETY OFFICERS
The Safety officer as well as the committee members are empowered to enforce all the club and SAMAA rules. It’s not a joke. If a member violates the Club rules, the complainant can report the violator via a written letter to the Executive committee, stating the date, name of violator, and a description of what happened. NO VERBAL COMPLAINTS PLEASE. The Executive committee will then investigate all evidence and circumstances around the incident. If found guilty, the Committee then will call the violator before an official hearing.
If a member is reprimanded for more than 3 times in 3 months he will be suspended as a member, and will not be allowed to fly until he/she can re-assure the committee, and other club members of his knowledge of the clubrules.
Note that if a member is persistent in violating the safety rules, he may found himself banned from the club, SAMAA and from flying model aircraft again.
SAFETY FIRST – take care of people around you first, before taking care of yourself.
Be reasonable towards each other. We all do make mistakes sometimes.
VISITORS
Visiting pilots from other clubs or non-members will pay an amount of R25-00/pilot to use the club facilities unless other arrangements are made with the committee. Guest pilots will not pay the visitor’s fee. A guest pilot is someone who is invited to VREDENDAL MODELVLIEGKLUB for the day or one who is accompanied by a fully paidup member.
HELICOPTERS
Helicopters and fixed wing aircraft are not allowed to operate at the same time. If so needed due to many fixed wing aircraft at the field, the situation must be addressed by the Safety officer and decisions made on his own discretion. BE IT A SAFE DECISION.
R/C BOATS & CARS
If R/C cars and boats are operated close to the flying field, the operators of these cars and boats must use the frequency board at the flying field to control their frequencies. In this manner it will reduce accidents due to frequency clashes.
INSURANCE
All pilots will have a third party insurance e.g. SAMAA. NO MEMBER WILL BE ALLOWED TO FLY WITHOUT THIRD PARTY INSURANCE.
In the event of a members aircraft causing an injury or damage to property of a third party, the incident should be reported to the Safety officer immediately accompanied with a detailed description in writing what happened. NO ADMISSION OF LIABILITY SHOULD BE MADE. A few eyewitnesses may help.
DRINKING AND FLYING AND HEALTH
NO PILOT WILL BE ALLOWED to consume anything like medication, drinks and food containing any form of ALCOHOL, while handling R/C aircraft. If any of the above is taken the pilot will be grounded for the rest of the day.
NO PILOT WILL BE ALLOWED to fly if it’s obvious that his physical health is not in good shape, e.g. broken arm/fingers, flu (lack of concentration).
Concentration and good health is vital while flying model aircraft.
SAFETY
BEFORE YOU TAKE ANY ACTIONS, FIRST CONCIDER THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND YOU!
MEMBERSHIP FEES
All existing members shall pay the club fees before the date set out by the executive committee.
